The Paul McCartney Out There tour arrived in Columbus, Ohio last night and I am still pumped up. After a 1 hour sound check set and nearly 3 hour concert, it seemed that Paul would play all night. He played music from every era of his long and heroic career. From the early Beatles days in Hamburg, West Germany through the latest song FourFiveSeconds recorded with contemporary artists Rihanna and Kanye West. There was even a video game theme song and many classical ballads.
Where do you start to write about Paul McCartney and how he influenced musical trends in the world? His range of songs are incredible from Blackbird to Helter Skelter. During the concert, he told a story about how The Beatles were the first rock band to play in what was then known as the U.S.S.R. According to Paul, the defense minister walked up to him before the concert and said: “Paul, my first album was Love Me Do!”
I feel that the success of a master marketer hinges on the ability to tell a great story. This is where Paul McCartney has wildly succeeded. He connects with you and makes you feel each song is about you and possibly some time in your life. And maybe that’s what we can learn from Paul McCartney in trying to improve our businesses. What is it about your company that’s worth telling a story about? How can you connect with your audience?
Excuse me now, I’m going to fire up Lady Madonna again.
