Have you ever stumbled out of bed in the morning only to realize that you forgot to do laundry or pick a few items up from the dry cleaner? If so, then you’ve probably given a “smell test” to a T-shirt or other item in the past. We all know how it works: If you don’t notice anything too terrible, then it can probably get you through the day.
Strange as it might sound, there is a good way to smell test your blog topics, too. While holding them up to your nose might not yield the results you’re hoping for, all you have to do is ask yourself a very simple question: Would one of my best customers spend a few minutes out of their busy day reading this?
If the answer is yes, then you’ve probably come across a topic that’s fairly valuable and timely. If the answer is no, on the other hand, then why bother writing it at all? Your buyers have enough to do without unnecessary distractions, so even though blogs are popular as search engine and online marketing tools, it’s important that you make every word count.
